WILX Makes An Impact with Food Drive

WILX reporter Alyssa Plotts

Gray Television’s WILX-TV (Lansing) partnered with the Lansing Brewing Company, the Greater Lansing Food Bank and the South Michigan Food Bank to collect non-perishables during the last week of February. The campaign wrapped up on Friday (2/25). For those unable to donate at the dropoff locations, the station opened its phone bank on the final day of the drive to accept cash donations.

During the weeklong event, 650 pounds of food was donated by generous viewers at the WILX Studios and the Lansing Brewing Company. The phone bank was manned by volunteers from the Greater Lansing Food Bank and the South Michigan Food Bank. Viewers called in and donated an amazing $8,000 for the food banks to purchase food. The funds raised will provide over 21,000 meals in Mid-Michigan.

Kelly Miller, the GLFB Director of Philanthropy said, “We’re all still so thrilled with how well the telethon went Friday evening. Thank you so much for the opportunity to be a part of Make an Impact. Everyone at the station was wonderful on Friday and we all had a blast!”
