Detroit TV Veteran Ryan Ermanni Joins WJR As New Afternoon Host

Cumulus Media has announced that longtime Detroit media personality Ryan Ermanni is joining the company's WJR-AM (Detroit) as afternoon host.  Ermanni is best known as co-host of “The Nine” on “Fox 2 Detroit” WJBK-TV.  He began his new shift this past Monday (7/7) and is on the air from 2 - 4 p.m. Eastern.

The move marks Ermanni’s transition from television to radio after more than 20 years in local broadcast news. A University of Michigan alum, Ermanni began his career at WWTV/WWUP-TV in Cadillac with later stints in Toledo and ultimately Detroit, where he joined WJBK-TV full-time in 2003.

“Ryan Ermanni is not only a seasoned broadcaster with deep roots in Detroit media, he’s also a longtime fan of WJR,” Steve Finateri, Regional Vice President/Market Manager, said in a release. “His passion for Detroit, his engaging on-air presence, and his respect for what WJR represents make him a perfect fit for our team.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Ryan Ermanni as a major addition to the WJR lineup,” PD Ann Thomas added. “We are confident Ryan will bring fresh energy and compelling conversations to our afternoon programming, while honoring the values and voice that have made WJR a trusted name for generations.”

For Ermanni, joining WJR represents a full-circle moment. “I am so honored to be a part of the WJR daily lineup,” he said. “I’ve always considered myself just a regular guy from the neighborhood who happens to have a really cool job. The WJR call letters mean something to me, as they do for many people who have grown up in our city and our state.”

Known for his approachable, down-to-earth personality, Ermanni says listeners can expect the same conversational style he brought to television. “I’m not your typical newsman. I wear my personality on my sleeve, and I react to stories the way someone might if they were sitting at home or in their car,” he said. “We joke that I’m a ‘man of the people’—and honestly, I take that as the highest compliment.”

Ermanni succeeds Chris Renwick in afternoons at WJR.
