Madison, Wisconsin-based Civic Media, which expanded its ownership into Michigan with the purchase of stations formerly owned by Jerry Hackman’s J&J Broadcasting, has announced a format flip at its WMPL-AM/W297CD in Hancock, flipping the signals from talk and sports to oldies under the moniker "Yooper 107.3."

Focusing on music from the 1960s and 70s, WMPL is one of many Civic Media spoken word stations to shift to Oldies in recent months including WFHR Wisconsin Rapids in December, WGBW Green Bay last August, and WRJN Racine in May 2024.

Civic has been upgrading the facilities it acquired, with recent social media posts by its engineering team work in-progress at the Hancock stations.  The company also told the MAB that similar upgrades are in the planning stages at its recently-acquired stations in Ironwood.
