About the Scholarship
The John D. Dingell Jr. Journalism Scholarship honors the legacy of longtime Michigan Congressman John D. Dingell Jr. and his commitment to public service, journalism and an informed public.
During his decades of service in Congress, Dingell played a significant role in issues affecting broadcasting and telecommunications, including through his leadership on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
The scholarship continues that legacy by investing in a student preparing to enter the journalism profession.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must have at least one semester of school remaining after Spring 2027. Graduating seniors are not eligible.
Applicants must be enrolled at a Michigan college, university or trade school and studying journalism or a related field with the goal of pursuing a career in journalism.
What You'll Need to Apply
Please have the following materials ready when completing your application:
- Letter of recommendation from an instructor
- Additional recommendation(s) from an internship, employer or other professional connection
- Current resume
- Student ID number
- At least two examples of school projects or professional work
- A 500-word essay, written in your own words, outlining your career goals
- Completed application information
Application Deadline
Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, January 22, 2027 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
