Former WOOD-TV News Director Dan Spaulding Dies at 79

The MAB has learned that former WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids) News Director, Dan Spaulding passed away April 7 at age 79.  Spaulding, born and raised in Saginaw, graduated from the University of Michigan, earning BA and MA degrees.  He served as as the “Voice” of the bands, announcing the marching band at the Big House.

WMYD-TV, Scripps Sports to Simulcast Final 3 Red Wings Regular Season Games

The Detroit Red Wings have partnered with Scripps Sports and Bally Sports Detroit to allow fans free access to the final three games of the regular season on WMYD-TV (Detroit).  This opportunity allows over 1.5 million fans in Southeast Michigan to tune in for free as the Red Wings make their final push for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Michigan Public Welcomes The Moth Mainstage to Detroit June 14

Michigan Public and Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts will present a live performance of The Moth Mainstage in Detroit on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. The Moth Mainstage features a line-up of writers, performers, and other unique national and Michigan storytellers, each with a ten-minute story to tell live without notes.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
