WKAR’s Shawn Turner Appointed to Michigan Veterans’ Facility Authority Board

WKAR Public Media (East Lansing) General Manager Shawn Turner has been appointed to the Michigan Veterans’ Facility Authority Board of Directors, the ten-member board that governs Michigan Veteran Homes. He was selected by the majority leader of the senate and appointed by Gov. Whitmer, with the advice and consent of the senate.

Detroit Public Television Unveils New Name and Announces Move

April 19, 2024

Detroit Public Television has announced that it has changed its name to Detroit PBS “to reflect our commitment and connection to the ‘Most Important City in America.’”  The announcement was made in a release dated April 18.  In addition to the name change, the organization announced that it will “return to its roots by moving its headquarters back to Detroit.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
