Detroit’s John Keating Announces Retirement Plans

Detroit sports broadcaster John Keating has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the current Detroit Red Wings’ season.  Keating made the announcement that he will hang up his microphone after 45 years via social media on December 27.

Radio Hillsdale & The Dale Raise $6k+ for Salvation Army

On December 13, personalities from Radio Hillsdale WCSR-FM and The Dale (WCSR-AM/W258DE) rang bells for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign at the Hillsdale Market House.  From 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. listeners, station partners, and the community made donations totaling $6,248.12!

Agreement with Audio Engineers of Detroit Paves Path for Students to Graduate from Ferris State University  

January 10, 2025

Students attending a leading audio production and training facility in southeast Michigan, Audio Engineers of Detroit, will receive Ferris State University credit for their coursework under an agreement intended to build a pathway through Ferris State’s Television and Digital Media Production degree program.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.

Broadcasting has a silent, but threatening issue occurring across the industry.  It is creating a deepening canyon within staff throughout this wonderful business.  We are blessed with an incredible number of veterans, but they are struggling to grow new employees into productive, long term broadcasters.  This divide is a problem and it is important that leadership begins to take action.
