Midwest Communications Adds WZUU and WQXC to Kalamazoo Cluster

Midwest Communications has announced that it is expanding in the Kalamazoo market with the purchase of WQXC-FM (Allegan) and WZUU-FM (Mattawan) for a reported $625,000.  The stations are currently owned by Forum Communications.

AJ Jones Joins WCMU’s Reporting Staff

WCMU Public Media (Mt. Pleasant) has announced that AJ Jones has joined its news staff as a reporter.  Jones is a Southfield native and joins the organization after working the last year as a reporter for Michigan Public in Ann Arbor.

WADL Owner Kevin Adell Announces Retirement and Intention to Sell Broadcast Holdings

September 13, 2024

WADL-TV/WFDF-AM owner Kevin Adell has announced his plans to retire with intention to sell his current business holdings, including both broadcast stations. According to The Desk, Adell told the publication that he is “moving forward with the sale of his independent television outlet WADL-TV (Channel 38) and will also part ways with his two other media assets: Radio station WFDF (910 AM) and religious broadcast network The Word.”

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
