Radio in Michigan Continues to Raise the Bar!

October 21, 2022

We are biased, but radio in Michigan continues to raise the bar. Our stations have elite storytellers, programs, and, most importantly, are a community resource that the state can consistently rely on especially in times of uncertainty.

This week, stations from across the state were recognized in New York as the best in the nation as nominees for the Marconi Awards:

LEGENDARY STATION OF THE YEAR
WLEN-FM, Adrian, Mich.

LEGENDARY RADIO MANAGER OF THE YEAR
Julie Koehn, WLEN-FM, Adrian, Mich.

LARGE MARKET STATION OF THE YEAR
WYCD-FM, Detroit, Mich.

MEDIUM MARKET STATION OF THE YEAR
WSGW-AM, Saginaw, Mich.

SPORTS STATION OF THE YEAR
WXYT-FM, Detroit, Mich.

(L-R) WYCD Program Director Tim Roberts and WXYT Program Director Jimmy Powers.

The MAB is proud of every station that was nominated and congratulates WXYT and WYCD, who were named Sports Station of the Year and Large Market Station of the year, respectively.

The success of these stations is a testament to the hard work and passion of everyone on staff from management to on-air talent to engineers to sales staff to office managers.

Furthermore, the Marconi recognition also reflects the work of all stations in Michigan who push those like WXYT and WYCD because of the strength of our industry as a whole.

And a special congratulations to Michigan Residents Paul and Fred Jacobs of Jacobs Media who received the National Radio Award. The Jacobs Brothers have provided tremendous support and guidance to the MAB, MAB Foundation and Michigan Association of Public Broadcasters. To have their vision and guidance in our backyard is invaluable and we are so proud that they are receiving the recognition they deserve.
