December 9, 2022

Kevin Ragan

The MAB is sad to share that former WILX-TV (Lansing) News Director Kevin Ragan has died. Ragan joined the station in 1999 and served as News Director until 2017, after suffering a stroke.  During his time at the station, Ragan hired and trained hundreds of people who would work in front of the camera and behind it, many whom have taken the guidance and advice to advance their careers far beyond mid-Michigan.

Announcing his passing, WILX wrote, "He was a journalist’s journalist. A hard-nosed newsman who took the job of covering the news seriously who didn’t take himself too seriously."

Prior to joining WILX, Ragan was News Director of KAKE-TV (Wichita, KS), Assistant News Director at WKYC-TV (Cleveland) and Assistant News Director at WTAE-TV (Pittsburg).

Ragan leaves behind his wife Jan, a daughter and son, and many journalists who remember him as a boss, a friend and a mentor.
