Allen Media Broadcasting's WJRT-TV (Flint) has announced that Sean Mahon has been named the station's new News Director, bringing 25 years of award winning experience as a journalist and manager to the WJRT newsroom. Mahon has been the station's Assistant News Director since October 2022.

Prior to joining WJRT, Mahon served as the Senior Managing Editor of Spectrum News 1 in Wisconsin and News Director of WWTV-WWUP 9&10 in Cadillac.

In these positions, Mahon earned prestigious honors including Michigan Association's Station of the Year Award for Market 3 in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, Michigan Associated Press Media Editors Broadcast News Operations of the Year in 2018 and runner up in 2019. Mahon also helped guide his WWTV-WWUP News Team to the number one position in the Cadillac market.

"Sean is a dedicated journalist who focuses on making a difference through powerful story-telling," said WJRT General Manager Brock Rice. "He is from Michigan, went to college at Central Michigan University so he knows the history and reputation of ABC12 and is excited to lead a newsroom that is a difference maker in our community."

Throughout his career, Mahon has also been on the front lines capturing images as a photojournalist for WDIV Local 4, covering major national news stories including Hurricane Katrina, President Obama's Inauguration, the World Series, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup and NBA finals.

"ABC12 is and always has been a powerhouse station with integrity, class and a reputation for being the station viewers trust for important information that provides context, a voice and answers to those in need," said Mahon. "It is a privilege to work with incredible journalists who have become more than people you see on the air. They've become the fabric of the community and true advocates for Mid-Michigan neighborhoods."
