Julie Sochay Joins Florida PBS Station

On June 29, WUCF-FM-TV (Orlando) announced that Julie Sochay has been named the Director of Content. The station is home to Central Florida's PBS channel and to 89.9 FM Jazz & More, which serves as a joint licensee with the University of Central Florida. Sochay comes to WUCF from a career at WKAR Public Media in East Lansing, Michigan, where she served as the Senior Director of Content and Communication.

“I am thrilled to join the talented team at WUCF,” said Sochay, “I plan to bring my passion for storytelling to WUCF and look forward to creating new content opportunities and new collaborations to serve the Central Florida region.”

Julie has spent the last 7.5 years at WKAR where she was a driving force behind much of WKAR’s commitment to their community through engaging and informative local content. In her role with WKAR she created the strategic vision for WKAR’s team of TV producers and directors, communications professionals, education team, programming team, and engagement team.

“Julie is an insightful leader with deep expertise and a relentless commitment to public media,” said WKAR General Manager, Shawn Turner. “We will miss her creativity and the determination she brought to work every day for more than 7 years at WKAR. I am confident that her long list of accomplishments will only grow as she joins the great team of professional at WUCF.”

Before WKAR, Sochay spent 17 years at the Michigan Association of Broadcasters serving as the Communications Director and later as Executive Vice President of the MAB Foundation.

“Julie has long been an amazing collaborator to WUCF within the PBS system,” said Jennifer Cook, Executive Director of WUCF.“We know she will help innovate WUCF’s content strategy in a way that aligns well with our vision for WUCF’s future. I can’t wait for the community to get to know and partner with her.”

Sochay’s new role as Director of Content will provide strategic leadership to WUCF and its mission to serve as Central Florida's Storyteller. Additionally, she will be responsible for all local and national content across all broadcast, digital and various online platforms.
