WCMU to Give Free Airtime to Area Non-Profits on GivingTuesday

November 17, 2023

WCMU Public Media (Mt. Pleasant) has announced that this GivingTuesday (11/28), the stations want to hear about and celebrate other charitable organizations based in the WCMU coverage area. Listeners that donate to WCMU on GivingTuesday will be able to nominate and "vote" for their favorite area non-profit organization – and the winning organizations will receive airtime noting the important work they do.

That means WCMU listeners who make a contribution on GivingTuesday will be supporting trusted news, vetted information, beloved entertainment and quality kids programming. They will also have the chance to highlight one of the many hard working, non-profit organizations that are doing so much good in central and northern Michigan.

On GivingTuesday, each dollar donated to WCMU, by a listener or viewer, will also be a ‘vote’ for their favorite local non-profit. They will simply need to mention the organization they would like to recognize in the comments with their WCMU donation. The three Michigan-based non-profits receiving the most ‘votes’ will receive airtime noting the important work they do. It’s a great way to help two causes at once.

“There are so many often-unsung organizations doing powerful and creative work to support their communities across central and northern Michigan," said WCMU Interim General Manager, Rick Westover. "It's a great opportunity for all of us to learn about these impactful organizations. GivingTuesday is the perfect time to spread the word.”

WCMU will be following FCC guidelines for messages from the winning non-profit organizations and will not be able to accept messages from political advocacy organizations, political candidates, or their committees.

Donations will be accepted on GivingTuesday, November 28, by calling 800-999-5656 or giving online at WCMU.org/GivingTuesday. It’s a chance to give back to the community two-fold by supporting quality radio and television programming and to celebrate the work of another local non-profit.
