As part of a November fundraiser, WCMU Public Media invited listeners to donate not only to the station, but to also to give the gift of food and support food bank partners in Michigan.  10% of all donations over $60 were designated "Gift of Food" thank-you gifts. As a result of these efforts, enough money was donated to provide 5,400 meals.  The donation effort took place over a 4-day period from November 16 through 20.

Funds were distributed to Feeding America partners, including Feeding America West Michigan, The Manna Food Project, Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and Greater Lansing Food Bank.  WCMU said that all four of the food banks are highly rated by Charity Navigator, an organization that rates the effectiveness of non-profit organizations. All organizations spend less than 11 cents of every dollar on things like administration and fundraising, and three of the four organizations spend less than 5 cents of every dollar on administration and fundraising. All other funds go towards addressing food insecurity in central and northern Michigan.
