32 Michigan LPFM Applications Filed in December Window

January 12, 2024

FCC logoThis past December, the FCC opened a filing window for new Low-Power FM (LPFM) stations nationwide.  All-in-all, 1,336 applications for the non-commercial service were filed with the FCC December 6-13, 2023.  This includes 32 applications within the State of Michigan.

The FCC staff is currently reviewing the applications to identify mutually exclusive (MX) groups of applications as well as “singletons,” applications that are not mutually exclusive with any other.

Conflicting applications, which cannot all be granted consistent with the commission’s technical rules, are considered mutually exclusive. A MX group consists of all applications which are MX to at least one other application in the group. Rule-compliant singleton applications will be accepted for filing, according to the FCC.  It should be noted that your MAB has already seen some petitions to deny filed in conjunction with some LPFM applications.

The 32 Michigan applications may be found via RecNet here.
