MAB/MAPB/MPRN to Provide 2024 State of the State Feeds

January 12, 2024

Governor Gretchen Whitmer during her 2023 State of the State address

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced that she will deliver her sixth State of the State Address on Wednesday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m. The address will be held in the Michigan House Chambers in front of a joint session of the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate and broadcast live throughout the state.

The MAB, along with MAPB and MPRN will provide feeds of the broadcast to stations throughout the state.  Plans are still being finalized, but commercial television can count on an unhosted feed of the Governor's address from the House.  The MAB plans to begin the feed by 7 p.m., with the Governor beginning her address starting at 7:01:30, allowing local anchors to introduce and set up the broadcast.  Public television stations will have a hosted broadcast, details to come, from 7 to 8 p.m.  Both commercial and public radio stations will have access to a hosted 90-minute broadcast produced by the Michigan Public Radio Network.  There will be an optional cutaway at 60 minutes for stations to leave the broadcast.

We'd like to thank our partners in these efforts, including WLNS-TV (Lansing) for uplinking the unhosted feed.  WKAR-TV (East Lansing) is producing and uplinking the produced program for public broadcasters.  The Michigan Public Radio Network will be producing the program for commercial and public radio.  Distribution of the radio feed with be through NPR Content Depot as well as through Westwood One.  Our thanks to WKAR-FM and the Spartan Sports Network for making this possible.

Details will be announced soon.
