WCMU Public Media has announced the appointment of Rick Brewer as their new News Director. Brewer has been WCMU's lead reporter since 2022, covering a wide range of issues including the Great Lakes and the environment, education, and the economy. His work has been heard nationally on NPR's Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Here and Now. His stories have also been featured by Harvest Public Media, WFIU, WFYI, and Northeast Public Radio.

"Rick is the perfect fit for this position," said Mike Horace, WCMU's Radio Program & Operations Manager. "Rick has demonstrated keen journalistic sensibilities, is an expert storyteller, and has been an incredible mentor to our team of full-time and student reporters. I know our news department is in good hands with Rick at the helm."

"I'm humbled to be WCMU's next News Director," said Brewer. "The thing I'm most excited about is developing deeper connections with our audience and the communities we serve."

Rick was appointed News Director after a national search. He officially begins in his new role on February 19. He replaces former news director Amy Robinson, who took a position with WKAR Public Media in East Lansing in August, 2023.

Rick has a BA in history from Denison University, and dual Masters' degrees in history and library science from Indiana University.
