Dave & Chuck the Freak

Cumulus Media's WLAV-FM (Grand Rapids) announced this week the debut of "Dave & Chuck the Freak" as its new morning show. The program originates at Beasley Media Group's WRIF-FM (Detroit), has been on-the-air since 2001, starting at CIMX-FM (Windsor, Ontario) before moving to WRIF in 2013.

Hosted by Dave Hunter, Chuck "The Freak" (Charles Urquhart), Lisa Way, Jason and Al, the program celebrated its 25th anniversary this past June.

“I think the reason we have been successful for that long is because it’s genuine,” Dave told Barrett Media's Mike Stern. “There’s no staged calls, no prank skits, and no actors going through a fake breakup. Every caller to the show is real. Nothing’s ever been staged.”

Chuck adds that another element of their success is the connection between them. “Chemistry is really important, and Dave and I started at the same place around the same time. We were both young, and we started to build a relationship even before we had a show together.”

Dave & Chuck the Freak will be heard from 6 to 10:30 a.m. on WLAV.  It is distributed nationally by Key Networks.
