The MAB has learned that former Grand Rapids country music programming Doug Montgomery is retiring.  Montgomery is best known in Michigan for the 20 years he programmed Clear Channel/iHeartMedia's WBCT-FM (Grand Rapids).  He was also the original programmer for the company's Country Premium Choice service.

Montgomery retires from Townsquare Media.  He joined that company in 2016, originally serving as Director of Content for its Grand Rapids cluster in addition to overseeing the Country format for the company. He was promoted to Vice President in February 2022.

“I have been extremely blessed to spend my whole adult life getting to do what I dreamed of as a kid: Be the guy who picks the songs on the radio and entertains listeners every day,” Montgomery said. “From my first overnight shift at WJPD in Ishpeming, Michigan, I knew the Country Radio was the avenue I wanted to pursue. Being a part of Country Music going to great heights throughout my career has been a great thrill. I am fortunate.”

Kurt Johnson, Townsquare SVP of Content & Programming, added, “Doug is second to none. He’s been an influential programmer for decades, and we’ve been very fortunate to have him lead our Country team for eight years. His impact in building Townsquare Country’s success will leave a legacy. We’ll miss him a lot, but we’re happy for him at the same time.”

In closing, Montgomery said, “Townsquare has an amazing team, so leaving was a tough decision. But I’m excited to finally have the opportunity for new personal experiences… I’ll be spending less time with family and more time in Vegas.”

Montgomery's retirement date is July 31, 2025.
