This past Monday (6/16), Gray Television's WLUC-TV (Marquette) sadly announced that station News Director Andrew LaCombe will be leaving the station after four years. LaCombe will become the news director at WLUK-TV in Green Bay beginning in July. LaCombe previously worked at WLUK.
“Upper Michigan is home and is truly someplace special to me,” said LaCombe. “That will never change. It is a tough decision to leave, but I think the time is right to pursue another dream job.”
“We’re incredibly proud of Andrew LaCombe’s outstanding contributions at WLUC, and while its tough to see him go, we’re thrilled for this exciting new role for him at WLUK in Green Bay,” said WLUC General Manager Rick Rhoades. “We will begin the process of finding TV6′s next news director immediately.”
In his time as WLUC News Director since April 2021, LaCombe says significant moments and team accomplishments include launching TV6 Investigates and TV6 First Alert Weather; promoting Jennifer Perez to Chief Meteorologist; re-launching and then expanding Upper Michigan Today; creating the TV6 Digital Desk; and expanding the TV6 Early News to the weekend.
“We’ve grown our team, increased our content and doubled down on coaching and training to ensure we are serving Upper Michigan with news and information they can trust and use,” he said.
LaCombe says he will miss his talented and dedicated colleagues at WLUC. He will also miss the current role he serves in several community organizations, including the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, Marquette Harbor Rotary Club and Salvation Army of Marquette County.
“Upper Michigan is a beautiful place, but it is the people who make it such a powerful community,” he said. “Thank you to everyone who has supported me with kindness, smiles and a good news tip. I’m lucky to have a new opportunity that is very close to home, so I won’t be a stranger.”
LaCombe, a past recipient of the MAB Young Professional Award, has served on the board of the MAB Foundation since 2023.
