Paul McGonagle Named SVP/GM of WJBK-TV

FOX Television Stations (FTS) announces leadership promotions across multiple markets. In Detroit, Paul McGonagle, currently Vice President and News Director of WTTG-TV (Washington, D.C.) has been named Senior Vice President and General Manager of WJBK-TV Detroit, succeeding longtime broadcast leader Greg Easterly, who is retiring.

In addition, Amber Eikel has been elevated to Senior Vice President and Regional General Manager, adding oversight of KTTV-TV/KCOP-TV (Los Angeles) to her current responsibilities as SVP/GM of KCPQ-TV/KZJO-TV (Seattle). Both Eikel and McGonagle will report to Jack Abernethy, Chief Executive Officer of FTS.

In making the announcement, Abernethy stated,  “Greg Easterly has been a trusted and inspiring leader across the nation’s top local markets and station groups. We thank him for his exceptional service and congratulate him on a remarkable career. In Paul and Amber, we have two of the strongest newsroom and operational minds in local television. Both have continuous track records of innovation and team-building, and I’m confident they’ll continue to raise the bar in Detroit, Los Angeles, and Seattle.”

For the last 12 years, Paul McGonagle has served as the Vice President & News Director of WTTG FOX 5 Washington DC. Before joining FOX 5, he served in multiple roles at WFXT FOX 25 in Boston, including Vice President/News Director. His earlier career included reporting and producing roles at WJAR (Providence), KGAN (Cedar Rapids), and WNNE (Vermont).

McGonagle added, “It’s a privilege to step into this role at FOX 2. I’m excited to lead a station with such a strong journalistic tradition and look forward to working closely with the team to serve the community at the highest level.”

McGonagle will fill the role of departing Senior Vice President & General Manager of WJBK FOX 2 Detroit, Greg Easterly, who is retiring. Over an illustrious career spanning decades, Easterly previously served as Senior Vice President of Group Operations for Tribune Media, overseeing 15 markets. Prior he was GM of WPIX (New York), WGN (Chicago) and WJW (Cleveland), where he had also held the VP of news position. A graduate of Abilene Christian University with a B.A. in Communications, Easterly began his career at several television stations across Texas and Oklahoma.

Eikel most recently served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of FOX’s Seattle duopoly (KCPQ/KZJO). Previously, Eikel held the Vice President News Director and Assistant News Director positions at KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco. Eikel has also worked as executive producer at KIRO (Seattle) and at KTNV (Las Vegas). She began her career as a producer, executive producer, and interim news director for KMIR in Palm Springs, California.

Eikel added,  “I’m honored to step into this expanded role and excited to build on the strong foundations in both markets. FOX 11 and FOX 13 are vital voices in their communities, and I look forward to working with the talented teams in Los Angeles and Seattle to deepen our connection with local audiences and expand our impact across platforms.”

Easterly added, “Working with Jack and the teams at FOX has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. I’m especially proud of what we’ve accomplished together in Detroit. As I step away to spend more time with my family, I do so knowing these stations are in very talented hands.”
