Longtime WJR Personality Warren Pierce Passes at 82

Warren Pierce, a legendary voice on Detroit radio whose career spanned nearly four decades at WJR-AM, passed away on October 31, 2025. He was 82. Pierce began his tenure at WJR in the 1970s, quickly becoming a fixture of weekend mornings with “The Warren Pierce Show.” His program blended news, lifestyle features, and interviews in a format that resonated deeply with listeners across Michigan. Over the course of his career, Pierce conducted an estimated 70,000 interviews, speaking with authors, entertainers, politicians, and experts from every walk of life.
Consultant and former WJR Program Director Gary Berkowitz said, said “For generations, Warren Pierce’s voice was part of weekends on 760 WJR, a true Great Voice of the Great Lakes," but for decades he also hosted "Mid-Day Magazine" every day on WJR, not to mention his incredible coverage of Michigan Football as their first sideline reporter. He also broadcast The Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade and countless other major Motor City events. Warren was much more. He was a major part of WJR’s success for decades!"
Radio's Best Friend, Art Vuolo, Jr. told the MAB that Pierce, along with his dog Duke, attended his 80th birthday celebration back on August 27. Said Vuolo, "Radio needs a lot more warm and friendly personalities like Warren Pierce."
In addition to his radio work, Pierce also served as an anchor for WJBK-TV, further cementing his reputation as one of the region’s most recognizable broadcasters. Colleagues and fans alike admired his professionalism, curiosity, and ability to make every conversation engaging.
Beyond the studio, Pierce was known for his love of University of Michigan football and his lifelong passion for animals. He is survived by his four daughters: Karen Rosett, Meredith Block, Alexandra Taves, and Samantha Pierce as well as four grandchildren.
