Cory Cumming
The Michigan Association of Broadcasters is saddened to share the passing of Cory Cumming, Chief Engineer at WLNS-TV in Lansing and a trusted colleague to so many across our industry.
Cumming dedicated more than four decades to broadcasting in the Lansing and Jackson areas, including over 25 years at WLNS. When WLNS General Manager, Marci Daniels, began to lead the station, she was told Cumming was widely regarded as one of the finest engineers in the business, a reputation he more than lived up to. He was a steady, knowledgeable presence who understood not only the technical backbone of a station but the responsibility that comes with keeping local broadcasting on the air. From tower sites to control rooms, late nights to emergency call-outs, Cumming was always there to make sure stations were serving their communities when it mattered most. Beyond his technical expertise, Daniels says that Cumming was known for his kindness, good humor, and deep commitment to the people around him.
Many MAB members will remember him as a familiar face at association events, especially the Engineering Conference, where the Beer & Bull session was one of his favorites. During major statewide events like the Governor’s State of the State addresses and inaugurations, Cory was often a calm, reliable voice helping ensure seamless coverage was distributed across the state. His professionalism and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on colleagues across Michigan.
We extend our deepest condolences to Cory’s family, friends, and the entire WLNS team during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed by the Michigan broadcasting community.
