Former Detroit Radio Air Talent Steve Monkiewicz Passes at 75

Longtime Detroit radio personality/newsman Steve Monkiewicz passed away on December 15, 2025.  He had a lifelong passion for radio and spent many years doing what he loved, working for several Detroit-area radio stations including WXYZ-AM, WABX-FM, WRIF-FM, WCSX-FM, WLLZ-FM, and WWWW-FM. His work reflected both his technical skill and his love for connecting people through sound and storytelling.

His resume also included stops at WJR-AM, WEMU-FM as well as stations in Flint.  In the mid-1980s, he briefly owned WZXM-AM/FM in Gaylord.  Most recently, he worked at Eagle Radio's WCUP-FM/WGLI-FM (Baraga), where he did mornings from 2012-2020.

Monkiewicz also had a second career as a Licensed Medical Hypotherapist.

He was born on July 20, 1950, and lived a life guided by curiosity, creativity, and a deep appreciation for both sound and nature.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Monkiewicz and Donna Monkiewicz (Cichy), and by his brother, Thomas Monkiewicz.  He was living in nearby L’Anse at the time of his passing.
