WCMU Public Media Welcomes Acclaimed Author Sandra Cisneros
October 9, 2026

Sandra Cisneros
WCMU Public Media is proud to present “Stories with Sandra Cisneros: The Places We Call Home — An Evening of Conversation, Connection & Celebration.” The event brings the work of acclaimed author Sandra Cisneros into conversation with communities across Michigan, sharing the stories, perspectives, and experiences that connect us — one story at a time.
Cisneros will visit Central Michigan University on Monday, Oct. 12. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Bovee University Center Rotunda. The event is free and open to the public.
Cisneros, best known for her acclaimed novel The House on Mango Street, will explore the enduring themes at the heart of her work, including identity, community, belonging, and the experiences that shape our understanding of home.
The evening will offer community members an opportunity to hear directly from Cisneros and engage with her work in a welcoming and meaningful setting. A book signing and reception will follow the presentation, giving attendees an opportunity to meet the author and continue the conversation. The first 100 attendees will receive a free copy of The House on Mango Street to take home.
The event is part of Hispanic Heritage Month programming at Central Michigan University and provides an opportunity for both the university community and the public to come together around Cisneros’ work and the themes of identity, culture, community, and belonging.
This event is made possible by the collective support of our partners: The Michigan Learning Channel. Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation and Sleepy Dog Books Foundation.
