WKLT Morning Show Saves Historic Water Tower in Boyne City
October 9, 2026

(L-R) Boyne City Water Tower before...and after.
On October 5, Midwestern Broadcasting's WKLT-FM (Kalkaska/Traverse City) air personality Finster (of the Omelette and Finster morning show on KLT “The Rock Station”) put out a call to the Boyne City community: Let’s preserve the historic water tower! Adjacent to the historic train station in downtown Boyne City, the water tower fed the steam engine trains that traveled to and through Boyne City. Over the years, the City-owned water tower had fallen into disrepair.
Rather than wait for city appropriations/approvals to save vs. potentially demolish the historic feature, the Omelette and Finster show pushed to get ‘er done quickly with listeners’ financial/physical support. In 2 days, the project was completed by local residents/business owners who wanted a piece of Boyne City’s history to be refurbished and saved. Additionally, a local blacksmith is donating his time/resources to building metal pieces and spout hardware to replicate what this water tower would have originally looked like, and a local landscaper is donating time/landscaping materials to beautify the grounds around the historic water tower.
Another great example of what a local radio station can accomplish in its community! The Boyne City Manager expressed his appreciation to the volunteers who gave much time, energy and resources to the effort.
WKLT is simulcast on 93.5 WBCM (Boyne City Michigan)
