Western Michigan University Student Radio Station Wins Two National Awards

March 15, 2024

Western Michigan University’s student-run radio station, 89.1 WIDR-FM (Kalamazoo), won awards for Best Radio Drama and Best Faculty Advisor at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Conference in earlier this month. WIDR’s nominated material competed with over 3,000 entries from 100 schools at the annual conference, which brings together college and high school media groups from across the globe.

Eric Zane Joins Blarney Stone’s WQON

Blarney Stone Broadcasting has announced that longtime Grand Rapids air talent Eric Zane is joining the company’s WQON-FM (Grayling) for the station’s morning shift beginning this Monday (3/18).  The new morning show will be named “The Inzane Asylum Q100 Michigan Mornings” show and will air weekday mornings, 6 – 10 a.m.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
