WKAR’s Turner Selected for 2025 Poynter/CPB Fellowship

Poynter has announced that 23 executives from across the nation selected for the 2025 Public Media Executive Editorial Integrity and Leadership Initiative, a six-month fellowship developed by the Poynter Institute and funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). WKAR Public Media (East Lansing) General Manager Shawn Turner is among those selected.

WZZM’s Chuck Mikowski Retires After 45 years

Longtime WZZM-TV (Grand Rapids) Vice President of Technology Chuck Mikowski has retired after 45 years of service to the station.  Mikowski’s first day at WZZM was January 7, 1980 when he came aboard the station as a maintenance technician.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
