NAB Requests the End of the 39% Cap on Nationwide Television Station Ownership – Looking at the Issues

The NAB last week submitted a letter asking the FCC to quickly repeal the 39% cap on national ownership of television stations.  This cap precludes the ownership by one company or individual of an attributable interest in television stations capable of reaching more than 39% of the television households in the United States.  The rule has been in place since 2004.

Ice Storms Take Down Towers in Northern Michigan

April 4, 2025

Severe weather this past Sunday (3/30) across Michigan took dozens of broadcasters throughout the state, bringing down power lines and affecting broadcasters without backup power.  In two instances, ice build up brought down two broadcast towers in the northern part of the lower peninsula.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
