Local Radio Freedom Act Is Reintroduced in Senate

March 7, 2025

This past Tuesday (3/4), Senators John Barrasso (R-WY) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) reintroduced the Local Radio Freedom Act (LRFA), a resolution opposing “any new performance fee, tax, royalty or other charge” on local radio stations. Twenty bipartisan senators have already cosponsored the resolution, signaling strong support for local radio stations in the new Congress.

Longtime WLNS-TV Anchor Sheri Jones to Retire After Almost 37 Years

March 7, 2025

WLNS-TV (Lansing) anchor Sheri Jones has announced her retirement after almost 37 years of bringing the news to Mid-Michigan viewers.  The station notes on its website that Jones’s contributions to broadcasting have earned her a well-deserved place in the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame, solidifying her status as a respected journalist.

WRSR-FM (Flint) Raises Nearly $72k with Annual Feeding Frenzy

March 7, 2025

On February 28, Krol Communication’s WRSR-FM (Flint) held its Fox Feeding Frenzy, an annual event to raise funds for The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. The station, along with many generous sponsors, the station’s incredible Listeners & tireless volunteers, were able to raise just shy of $72,000!

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
