Samantha Jacques Named New Chief Meteorologist at WZZM-TV

Tegna’s WZZM-TV (Grand Rapids) has announced that morning meteorologist Samantha Jacques has been named the new Chief Meteorologist, leading the WZZM/13 Weather Impact Team. Veteran Chief Meteorologist George Lessens is retiring after 44 years in November and announced her new role during the evening newscasts.

Jacobs Media to Host Free Webinar: What Radio’s Air Personalities Are Thinking in 2024

In collaboration with Don Anthony and Morning Show Boot Camp, Jacobs Media surveyed more than 500 participating U.S. radio personalities, hosts, and producers in the U.S. for AQ6, including nearly 60 of whom are currently unemployed. They expressed how they feel about key issues affecting their jobs and their careers.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.

Broadcasting has a silent, but threatening issue occurring across the industry.  It is creating a deepening canyon within staff throughout this wonderful business.  We are blessed with an incredible number of veterans, but they are struggling to grow new employees into productive, long term broadcasters.  This divide is a problem and it is important that leadership begins to take action.
