The E.W. Scripps Company has named veteran Scripps local media leader Gary Baxter to the role of General Manager and Director of Sales at WXMI-TV, the Scripps-owned Fox affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Baxter has been with Scripps-owned WSYM in Lansing, Michigan, for 26 years.

Both Radio Insight and the Detroit Free Press report that Detroit-based social media influencer Anna Robb has joined iHeartMedia’s WKQI-FM (Detroit) morning show “Mojo in the Morning.”

The Detroit Red Wings’ Red & White Game plus eight Grand Rapids Griffins 2025-26 regular-season home games at Van Andel Arena will be televised live to fans across West Michigan on Nexstar’s WXSP-TV (Grand Rapids). 

Civic Media, the operator of radio stations in Wisconsin, Minnesota and soon Michigan, has promoted from within to serve as its Chief Operating Officer. Kory Hartman, who joined the company in 2023, has been promoted from VP/Operations to Chief Operating Officer.

Inside Radio reports that Todd Noordyk’s Great Lakes Radio has filed an application with the FCC to donate oldies WQXO-AM (Munising) to K-Love, Inc. (formerly known as Educational Media Foundation). The deal includes the Munising, MI-licensed translator W249DR at 97.7.

Scripps’ Media’s WXYZ-TV (Detroit) has announced that they will host a Detroit mayoral debate in October between City Council President Mary Sheffield and Pastor Solomon Kinloch Jr., giving the community a chance to hear directly from the candidates.  Sheffield and Kinloch emerged as the top two candidates in Detroit’s mayoral primary, advancing to the general election in November.

During his acceptance speech, Blaha said, “I’ll start my 50th year broadcasting Detroit Pistons basketball this fall,” Blaha said. “It has been an awesome ride, describing the excitement that the Pistons have brought to the game, the great state of Michigan, and the entire basketball world.“

“Meet the People” will feature round-table discussions with community leaders, influencers and elected officials, addressing the issues that matter most to area residents. The station also announced that they will air the first annual “WHMI Cares” Radiothon, to benefit the Livingston County United Way, Salvation Army, Gleaners Community Food Bank and Lacasa Center to assist those in need in their community.

According to press reports, Sinclair Broadcast Group, headed by President/CEO Christopher Ripley, has filed applications to formally acquire stations it has been operating under shared services agreements.  These include three television stations and their associated digital subchannels here in Michigan.
