WOMC’s Jim ”JJ” Johnson to Retire

Detroit broadcast veteran and host of WOMC’s “JJ and JoAnne Morning Show” Jim “JJ” Johnson announced he will retire after 52 years in Detroit radio. His last day on air will be December 1. Johnson started his career on 104.3, then known as WEXL, but rose to fame in Detroit as a morning show host on WWWW-FM.

With little advanced public fanfare, Adell Broadcasting’s WADL-TV (Detroit) has picked up the programming of the CW Network as of September 1.  That was the date CBS previously announced that it would drop the CW affiliations from its owned and operated stations nationwide, including Detroit’s WKBD-TV.

September Regulatory Dates for Broadcasters – Regulatory Fees, HD Radio Power Increase Comments, EAS Filings, and Preparation for Many October Deadlines

On the surface, September appears to have few scheduled regulatory filing dates and deadlines, but it is period in which many broadcasters will be busy with deadlines that occur in early October and into the rest of the Fall.  TV stations should be finishing their decision-making on must-carry/retransmission consent elections, which need to be in their public files by October 2.
