WCSX’s Big Jim O’Brien and Rock & Brews Salute to Veterans

As part of the opening festivities, Rock & Brews presented a $3,000 donation to Vets Returning Home, a local organization dedicated to supporting veterans in need. The donation was made alongside Big Jim O’Brien of 94.7 WCSX (who coordinated the fundraiser) and Sandy Bower of Vets Returning Home, highlighting a shared mission to give back to the veteran community.

Zoe Burdine-Fly Announces Retirement from Connoisseur Media

After more than four decades in broadcasting, Zoe Burdine-Fly, Senior Vice President for Connoisseur Media has announced her retirement.  Burdine-Fly, a past MAB Chair, joined then-Alpha Media in late 2021, overseeing  the operations, talent management and the strategic growth of 13 Alpha Media markets, including Amarillo, Bakersfield, Lincoln and Topeka.

WKAR Debuts New Mid-Michigan Talent Series

WKAR Public Media (East Lansing) has announced the debut of a new series focused on Mid-Michigan talent.  Streetlight Sessions is a show dedicated to Mid-Michigan’s music scene, directed and hosted by WKAR’s Al Martin.  Martin is best known for his sports reporting for WKAR.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
