Women of WLNS help Habitat for Humanity Build a Home

May 19, 2023

On May 15, women staffers from Nexstar’s WLNS-TV (Lansing) spent a day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to help build a home for future local homeowner Brittni Perry.  Anchors Sheri Jones, Chivon Kloepfer and Kiyerra Lake were joined by other female staff from the station, including VP/GM Marci Daniels, in assisting other Habitat for Humanity volunteers construct the new home.

2023 Regional Murrow Award Winners Announced

May 19, 2023

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has announced the recipients of the 2023 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.  The 9 Michigan broadcasters won a total of 18 awards in Region 7, which is shared with Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.  Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of electronic journalism.

Michigan Radio’s Rachel Ishikawa Wins AAJA Excellence in Audio Storytelling Award

The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) has announced that Michigan Radio’s Rachel Ishikawa is the winner of their 2023 Excellence in Audio Storytelling, News Feature Award. Ishikawa won the award for her feature “The story of Kinuko Yada DeVee.”

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.

Broadcasting has a silent, but threatening issue occurring across the industry.  It is creating a deepening canyon within staff throughout this wonderful business.  We are blessed with an incredible number of veterans, but they are struggling to grow new employees into productive, long term broadcasters.  This divide is a problem and it is important that leadership begins to take action.
