Eastern Michigan University Announces Rename of WEMU Broadcast Facility: The Timko Broadcast Center at Halle Library

Veteran Broadcasters Announce Their Retirements from WEMU

At the conclusion of WEMU’s 60th anniversary, veteran broadcasters David Fair and Michael Jewett have announced their retirements from Eastern Michigan University’s WEMU-FM (Ypsilanti), effective June 30, 2026. News Director and Morning Edition host David Fair has been with the station since 1994 while Senior Music Announcer/Operations Manager Michael Jewett recently celebrated his 42nd anniversary with WEMU.

Kim St. James Adds WLAV-FM Airshift

This past Monday (2/9), Cumulus Media announced that veteran Michigan air talent Kim St. James will add airshift duties at its WLAV-FM (Grand Rapids).  St. James takes over the midday air shift previously held by Jackie Green, who left the company after a decade.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
