WABX Air Ace Reunion in the Motor City

Fifty-year Detroit Radio legend Doug Podell who, in February, retired while at iHeart’s WLLZ-FM, decided to incorporate a reunion of some of the well-remembered personalities who were a part of Detroit’s first “underground” progressive rock and roll FM station, 99.5 WABX (now country WYCD).

Michigan Public “The Dish” Hosts to receive National Gracie Awards

March 27, 2026

Two Michigan Public staff members have been selected to receive National Gracie Awards.  Mercedes Mejia, host of the station’s “The Dish” culinary podcast, won a National Gracie Award for best Interview Feature. Additionally, Kate Wells won for her Public Health coverage as best Reporter/Correspondent.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
