Audacy’s WYCD Named CMA Major Market Station-of-the-Year

The Country Music Association (CMA) has announced the recipients of its 2024 Broadcast Awards and Audacy’s WYCD-FM (Detroit) received top honors as the Major Market Station-of-the-Year.  The station competed with four other stations throughout the country in the Major Market category. “The 58th Annual CMA Awards,” hosted by Luke Bryan, Peyton Manning and Lainey Wilson, will air live on ABC-TV from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday, November 20.

Jesse Bruce Celebrates 25 Years at WGHN

Jesse Bruce, 92.1 WGHN-FM (Grand Haven) Program Director & Afternoon Host, celebrated his 25th Anniversary at the station on September 27. Starting as an intern in 1999, Bruce has worked in numerous capacities for WGHN, including sports and commercial production and news and hosting responsibilities.

WOOD-TV Hosts Rogers-Slotkin Senate Debate

October 11, 2024

This past Tuesday (10/8), Nexstar Media’s WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids) hosted the first debate between U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D) and former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R), the top two candidates for U.S. Senator from Michigan. The hour-long debate originated from the WOOD-TV studios and aired on a number of stations throughout the state.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.

Broadcasting has a silent, but threatening issue occurring across the industry.  It is creating a deepening canyon within staff throughout this wonderful business.  We are blessed with an incredible number of veterans, but they are struggling to grow new employees into productive, long term broadcasters.  This divide is a problem and it is important that leadership begins to take action.
