Central Michigan University’s Media Hall of Fame Inducts Seven in Class of 2025

At a dinner ceremony held last Saturday (11/1), Central Michigan University’s School of Communication, Journalism, and Media inducted seven into its Media Hall of Fame. The group includes alumni who have had distinguished careers in the fields of journalism, public affairs, radio, television, and academia.

November 2025 Regulatory Dates for Broadcasters – Federal Government Shutdown, Daylight Savings Time, Comment Deadlines, FCC Open Meeting and more

In November, the biggest regulatory news may be the continuing federal government shutdown is continuing.  If the shutdown persists, comment deadlines discussed below may shift until after the government resumes normal operations.  As we discussed here, the FCC provided guidelines before the shutdown began on how regulatory deadlines would be impacted during the government shutdown, with most deadlines postponed until the day after the day that the FCC reopens.

Former WJRT-TV and WEYI-TV News Anchor Passes

A former anchor who held on‑air roles at both WJRT‑TV and WEYI‑TV in Flint has passed away at the age of 85. Jerry Taff, who later became a fixture to Milwaukee, Wisconsin viewers for over 25 years passed away October 27 in his home state of Texas.  He was 85.

WLEN Opens Annual Hometown Hope Applications

Detroit TV & Radio Legend Bob Hynes Dies at 93

Longtime Detroit TV and radio personality Bob Hynes died last Friday (10/17) in California, following a brief illness, according to a family spokesperson. The Saginaw native hosted his own morning show on WXYZ-TV for five years beginning in 1966.

We would normally provide you with some of the regulatory developments of significance to broadcasters from the past week, with links to where you can go to find more information as to how these actions may affect your operations.  But, as the government shutdown has drastically limited activity at the FCC, and as Congress did not produce significant news this week while focused on the shutdown and other activity, we thought that we should provide some reminders on specific regulatory activity that is curtailed by the shutdown and about some of the issues that may arise once it is resolved.
