Dear MAB Member,
The Reading People/Capital Area Literacy Coalition (CALC) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer literacy organization founded in 1986 by Dr. Lois Bader, PhD of Michigan State University.
Through a variety of free services, we help people achieve their personal goals through literacy and believe the ability to read is crucial to personal freedom and the maintenance of a democratic society.
With our small staff and our many volunteer tutors we provide entirely free services including diagnostic testing, one-on-one instruction in reading, writing, comprehension, GED (high school diploma), English second language and citizenship as well as our "Read to Succeed" program for children (K-5) for low income families.
Mainly we serve residents of Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties.
